Methods for Improving Mitochondria: Scientifically Validated

Methods for Improving Mitochondria: Scientifically Validated

Introduction: Many of us set resolutions focused on improving our health, whether it's losing weight or enhancing our energy levels. Energy isn't just about staying awake—it's the fuel that powers our daily activities, from work to play. At Theriome, we understand the importance of energy and are here to help you achieve your health goals in 2024. Join us as we delve into the science of energy with insights from Dr. Jasbi and Dr. Mohr.

The Essence of Energy:

Energy production in the body is a complex process that involves several organs and cellular structures working together. The liver plays a significant role in this process by metabolizing proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, converting them into usable energy. Excess glucose from foods and drinks is stored in the liver as glycogen through a process called glycogenesis. This glycogen serves as an energy reserve that helps maintain steady blood sugar levels.

The liver and mitochondria are integral to energy production.  The liver metabolizes nutrients and stores energy, while the mitochondria convert these nutrients into ATP. Keeping these organs healthy is vital for maintaining energy levels and overall well-being.

The mitochondria, often called the powerhouses of the cell, are crucial for energy production. These tiny organelles generate ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), the main energy currency in cells, through several biochemical processes, including glycolysis, the Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle), and the electron transport chain.

Glycolysis is the first step in breaking down glucose to extract energy for cellular metabolism. It takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell and does not require oxygen, making it an anaerobic process. During glycolysis, one molecule of glucose is converted into two molecules of pyruvate, producing a small amount of ATP and NADH (an electron carrier used in later stages of energy production).

The pyruvate molecules from glycolysis are transported into the mitochondria, where they are converted into Acetyl-CoA, which then enters the Krebs cycle. The Krebs cycle, occurring in the mitochondrial matrix, generates energy by oxidizing Acetyl-CoA derived from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. This cycle produces NADH and FADH2, which are used in the electron transport chain.

The electron transport chain is the final stage of cellular respiration and takes place in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Here, electrons from NADH and FADH2 are transferred through a series of protein complexes and coenzymes. This transfer creates a proton gradient across the mitochondrial membrane, driving the synthesis of ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. Most of the cell's ATP is produced in this stage.

10 Vitality Drainers: Many factors in our daily lives silently rob us of our energy reserves. By identifying and addressing these energy thieves, you can improve your overall health and energy levels. These include:

  • Poor Diet

  • Sedentary Lifestyle

  • Chronic Stress

  • Toxin Exposure

  • Aging

  • Chronic Diseases

  • Medication Use

  • Sleep Deprivation

  • Inflammation

  • Alcohol and Substance Abuse

Revolutionary Energy Discovery: At Theriome, we offer a revolutionary at-home test that can pinpoint energy leaks at the cellular level. Our metabolomics panel provides deep insights into your metabolism, helping you identify areas for improvement and track your progress over time.
